28 Jan 5 Essential Apps For When You Move Into a New Neighborhood
Best Apps For Being Part of the Neighborhood
1. Nextdoor
Nextdoor is a website and free app that acts as a private social network for you and your neighbors. You need to verify your address when you sign up, so you can only use it if you are a current resident of a neighborhood. The app is growing fast, and when I signed up there were 40 other people living in my neighborhood with the app. It’s a great way to connect with people in your area and people use it for a variety of things, such as to find reliable babysitters or handymen in the area, post about a lost dog, or share information about burglaries or crimes in the neighborhood.
2. Around Me
Around Me is a great app for finding places near you. The app finds popular and nearby spots within 1km of where you are. This is a great app for exploring a new city and see what hidden gems lie within it. Whether you’re looking for the closest place to grab some food or the nearest ATM, Around Me has you covered.
3. Eventbrite
Eventbrite has been around for a while now and for a good reason. The app is one of the best ways to find upcoming events in your city. Not only can you discover new things to do, you can also see what your friends are going to and invite them to the stuff that interests you. And you don’t even need to print your ticket before you go to the venue – just show your ticket from your phone!
4. Waze Social GPS Maps & Traffic
Waze is a community-based traffic and navigation app with an extremely large user base. With this app, users in your area submit real-time traffic information so you know exactly which streets to avoid when you’re running late. When there is heavy traffic, the app helps you reroute to save time and gas. As a matter of fact, you can even see where the cheapest gas stations are in your area. This app is fantastic if you’re moving to a new area and need to fine-tune your commute route.
5. Safety Blanket ($0.99) (iPhone only)
Safety Blanket is the perfect app for someone who is interested in exploring their city while being safe and prepared. With one touch of a button, you can call any of the emergency services in your area. You can also tap one button to send a “help” signal to your key contacts, and it not only provides them with your location, but it also gives you the opportunity to include a photo/video with your SMS. There are other really cool safety features as well, such as a flashlight and a siren to draw attention to you.
